Adam Lind Down, Yan Gomes Up

Adam Lind has finally been sent down to the minors. Thank goodness. You have to give a guy coming off 2 horrific seasons at least 100 plate appearances to prove that he isn't worthy of a spot based on his 2009 numbers alone...no you don't! What the hell took so long? He has failed to hit like a big-leaguer for over 1,200 plate appearances now. That's plenty of time to draw the conclusion that he isn't worthy of a roster spot, let alone the clean-up hitter's spot.

Replacing the once-hot prospect is Yan Gomes. I wrote about Gomes a little in a post profiling Blue Jays AAA hitting prospects. I would MUCH rather see David Cooper getting the call, because he's the better hitter and has more upside and a better approach more suited to MLB pitching, but I'm so happy that Lind has finally been demoted that I don't give a hot turd who they replace him with.  what do you expect from the management that let Adam Lind "protect" Jose Bautista for hundreds of at bats?

Gomes become the first Brazilian-born player in MLB history. I find that hard to believe, but apparently that's the case. He's going to have to learn to lay off the junk, because a ~4% walk rate won't cut it at the next level.

Here's hoping Gomes and his crazy-aggressive approach can sustain his +.400 BABIP (not a chance in hell) and give the Jays a much-needed offensive boost.

And here's hoping management takes a deep breath, pulls its head out of its ass, and calls up David Cooper sooner rather than later.

Up next on the demotion watch-list: Colby Rasmus. There's only so long that a weak BABIP can be used as an excuse for a .208/.273/.346 slash line.

  1. Gomes plays 3 positions. That leaves two roster spots for others A nice addition for other decisions yet to come. Manager must be excited
